In 2009, Mr. Joseph Johnson III was convicted and sentenced to 18 years in prison. He ultimately served 16 years of that sentence.
During his incarceration, Mr. Johnson became committed to changing his life for the better. He actively participated in treatment classes and rehabilitation programs Pathways to Change and the Gateway Foundation Corrections Program. Through these programs, he demonstrated a sincere desire for personal growth, accountability, and rehabilitation.
Mr. Johnson was released from prison on May 5, 2025. When he entered the Second Chance Program on July 2, 2025, he was skeptical about the opportunities the program could provide. However, his primary goals were to obtain meaningful training, provide for his family, avoid returning to his previous lifestyle, and continue growing as a man and productive member of society.
While in Second Chance, Mr. Johnson consistently strived for excellence. Although he worked several jobs before securing permanent employment, he remained determined and focused on building a stable future. In November 2025, Mr. Johnson was hired by the City of Kansas City Water Department, and in April 2026, he was informed that he would be advancing into a supervisory role.
Mr. Johnson has made tremendous progress in rebuilding his life and has proven himself to be a responsible, hardworking, and dedicated individual. Since his release, he has been a positive contributor to society and will continue to be a valuable addition to his community.
