Kansas City Guns 'N Hoses Charity Boxing Event:

Guns ‘N Hoses, held each November, is an amateur boxing show featuring policemen versus firemen from the Missouri counties of Cass, Clay, Jackson and Platte; and the Kansas counties of Douglas, Johnson, Shawnee, Wyandotte and Miami. All bouts are supervised by USA Boxing, which is the national governing body of amateur boxing in the United States. Professional style championship belts and jackets are awarded to all participants in the show.

100% of the proceeds from Guns ‘N Hoses benefit local charities. The majority goes to SAFE with the balance going to amateur youth boxing programs in the Greater Kansas City area that combat juvenile delinquency. In 2005 The Turner Boxing Club in Kansas City, KS was established with funds from Guns ‘N Hoses.

2005 marked the First Annual Kansas City Guns 'N Hoses Boxing Event and resulted in a sell out crowd! This is one of the best events you can participate in or attend all year! Get on board now! Call Sonny Wilson at 816-960-6800 or e-mail swilson@kc-crime.org to become part of this worthwhile endeavor.

It was with a heavy heart that the 2011 Guns ‘N Hoses boxing show was cancelled. The Guns ‘N Hoses committee met with our premier sponsor Janet Long and SAFE’s Executive Director, Sonny Wilson to discuss making this really tough decision.

Fully trained participants are the main ingredient in this production and without an adequate number from which to make fair pairings (based on ability, age and weight), safety would be sacrificed and that is not a sacrifice we are willing to make. A second very important ingredient is the cadre of volunteers needed to put this event on every year.

As much as we regret having to come to the reality of delaying the event a year, we are firmly committed to working on the 2012 event. To make that happen, we are in need of volunteers who can devote time helping with the creation of the program, recruiting participants, selling tickets and obtaining corporate sponsors. If we can get a head start on locking down all the myriad of details that make the event meaningful and special for the boxers, as well as everyone who provides support by purchasing tickets and donating funds, come this time next year all we will have to worry about is what to do about the sold-out venue.

We will be posting information that provides updates on things such as being able to train earlier for 2012’s event, what exactly the committees need help with, and overall progress of reaching a goal to truly make 2012 the best event ever! If you would like to offer your support to the 2012 Guns ‘N Hoses please email events@ringside.com.
