In 2007 the Crime Commission created the Kansas City’s Most Wanted Newspaper. The paper is sold at more than 100 convenience and liquor stores throughout the Kansas City metropolitan area. The eight-page publication features mugshots of 70 to 80 local fugitives and sells for $1.
The $1 charge is necessary to cover costs for creating and distributing the paper. Twenty-five cents from each issue sold goes to the store with the remaining seventy-five cents paying production and distribution costs. Any excess funds go toward the Crime Stoppers 474-TIPS Hotline reward fund.
Kansas City's Most Wanted Newspaper is a way of putting the names and faces of numerous fugitives before the public eye and provides a first-time comprehensive list of the area’s most-wanted fugitives. Future plans include expanding distribution locations to 200 stores and including crime prevention and personal safety articles in each issue.
